Paint Cans Don't Have to End up in a Landfill!
It has been estimated that 10% of all paint purchased remains unused. The flip side of that would mean that 90% of all the paint sold is consumed, requiring the containers to be dealt with. Today the truth is that most of the more than 1.5 billion cans of paint sold are thrown into landfills, wasting our natural resources Land filling also comes at a high financial cost. The paint cans comprise approx. 56 million tons of material. The question is why would you pay to throw paint containers away when you can receive money for the metal or plastic recovered from the recyclable containers?
We can reduce the amount of landfill space used or new raw material required for manufacturing new cans by recycling. The NCPD proposes to strategically locate can crushers and shredders, based on both geographical areas and by population centers in order to facilitate the collection of steel paint cans. These recovery areas will be accessible to residents as well as commercial painters.
